1970 Plymouth Barracuda

Description

This 1970 Plymouth Barracuda is the first year of the E-body — the long-hood, short-deck shape that made the model famous — and it has been rebuilt from the ground up into a street-and-track car with 505 miles on the build. It is finished in red with a black hood and a black rear spoiler. Under the hood it is a 408 cubic-inch small-block stroker assembled from all-new parts and rated at 545 horsepower and 565 pound-feet of torque, backed by a T56 six-speed manual transmission. An aluminium radiator with electric fans keeps it cool, the cabin carries vintage-style air conditioning, and the car has been completely rewired with a new harness and a new fuel tank — sorted end to end rather than pieced together. The chassis has had the same treatment: a coilover conversion front and rear, four-piston disc brakes measuring 11.25 inches at all four corners with hydroboost assistance, welded torque boxes and additional bracing for rigidity, and a hydraulic handbrake. The battery has been moved to the boot for weight distribution, and the roll cage and harnesses are certified through 2027. Inside, the black leather interior is clean and purposeful: carbon-fibre gauges give a live read on the engine, and the cockpit has been laid out around the driving experience first. It starts, runs and stops without drama, which on a car with this much work behind it is the point. The E-body Barracuda is one of the most sought-after shapes in American muscle, and a documented ground-up build on this specification — with only 505 miles on it — is the expensive way to buy one.
